Adam Dupuis (A.D.)
ABOUT A.D. BOXING
A. D. Boxing got its name from Joe’s Grandfather, Canadian Boxing Hall of Famer. He was the holder of four Maritime
amateur boxing titles and one New Brunswick crown, the Maritime titles he won were - flyweight, featheweight, lightweight
and junior welterweight. The heavy-fisted Loyalist City fighting ace beat three fighters all in the same night in Saint John
In May of 1932 to walk off with the New Brunswick 108-pound crown and it must be pointed out that Dupuis was only 13-years-old
at the time. his opponent in the final was 32-years old. Joe's grandfater was his first boxing trainer, Adam Dupuis
(A.D.), in hope that his legacy of training will live on.
A lifelong martial art practitioner
and coach, owner and head instructor Joe Dupuis has found Muay Thai/Kickboxing and boxing training, both in his own life and
in working with his clients, to be one of the most effective and enjoyable ways to improve total body fitness. Each workout improves strength, flexibility, fitness and stamina.
He also found it to be one of the most versatile forms of exercise. One
that is able to be practiced in many different ways: simply for fitness, self-defense, competition, as a mind-body meditation,
and even as an art form.
A client’s progress
is very important to Joe and his instructors. They tailor each Muay Thai/kickboxing or boxing workout to the needs and goals
of each student, working with their abilities, helping to strengthen their weaknesses, creating an engaging workout that is
both a physically and mentally challenging.
For those interested in
Kickboxing we offer classes (for complete beginners and experienced students), one-on-one training sessions and semi-private
training sessions. All of our instructors are also certified personal trainers,
so one can design a program that combines both kickboxing and weightlifting training.
Please note that kickboxing training within our studio is highly controlled. The focus is not to hit hard and 'damage'
other members of the class. Rather, it is to learn an art from, improve confidence
and fitness, at the same time having fun. Violence and aggression do not exist in our kickboxing fitness vocabulary.
WHAT IS MUAY THAI?
Muay Thai is a Thai Martial
art and national sport that is over a thousand years old. As old as Kung Fu,
and much older than most other martial art practices like Karate, Tai, Kwan Do, or Aikido.
American style kickboxing, largely based on Muay Thai was only introduced to the U.S. about 50 years ago.
Muay Thai is the “Deadly
Science of Eight Limbs” and teaches its practitioner how to use fists, elbows, knees, and kicks as weapons. It is as much a mental practice as a physical one. A Muay
Thai student learns focus, control, discipline and respect.
For those clients and students
who wish to practice Muay Thai as more than just a fitness practice, Joe opened Crouching Tiger Muay Thai and Kickboxing School
where both adults and children can train in Muay Thai, including some of the more old style and ancient techniques.
